If you are the “mood” for some Moody Blues, John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter, and vocalist of the groundbreaking band, will be performing in CT twice this summer.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will be performing in the Warehouse of the Fairfield Theater on Thursday, July 18. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. On July 27, Lodge heads to Infinity Music Hall in Hartford. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Lodge described how the innovative music came to be, and said the band originally was performing covers of American songs, but then started to write their own music.

“After a while, when we were doing covers in the first 45 minutes and our music in the second 45 minutes, we realized people really wanted to hear our music,” he said.

Lodge said realizing that they could make their songs any length and in any format was liberating versus trying to fit songs into a radio format.

“If the song lasted six minutes, it lasted six minutes. There were no rules. We were making our own rules,” he said. “We decided our own path and adding things like the flute and the mellotron.”

Lodge is continuing his celebration of The Moody Blues’ music and the iconic album, “Days of Future Passed.” The first set encompasses electric classics featuring all the fans’ favorites. The second set will see Lodge and his band perform “Days of Future Passed” in its entirety, and in full symphonic sound.
